Chris Young Racing
Christopher A. Young, son of Ann Young and Riverhead Raceway Modified driver Chris Young, had no on –track racing experience prior to his start in December 2008 in a Kyle Beattie Racing prepped Legends car at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. While under the guidance and leadership of the Full Throttle Driver Development Program, which was co-owned by former Riverhead Raceway announcer Mike Calinoff, Christopher made strides throughout the winter months at Lowe’s. Young went to Orlando in February of 2009 to compete in the Legends car Nationals and put together a terrific week of racing. He even captured a feature win over veteran late model stock car drivers and former NASCAR Camping World Series starter, Crissy Wallace.
Chris and his family were thrilled when they heard the news that owners Jim and Barbara Cromarty would allow him to compete at Riverhead Raceway in 2009, thus making him the first 14 year old to race at the famed ¼ - mile track. Chris, who grew up around the track, watching his dad compete in the Modified division at Riverhead Raceway, now had the chance to follow in his father’s footsteps. “It wasn’t about how old I was, but how I could perform on the track” Chris stated when asked how he felt to be the youngest ever to race at Riverhead Raceway.
Christopher has raced successful 2009 and 2010 seasons and is currently wheeling the #49 Legends car around Riverhead Raceway’s ¼ -mile oval as well as other short tracks around the tri-state area with amazing results. He says he couldn’t have done this on his own.
First and foremost he would like to thank his grandma, Lois, for buying his first Legends car for him. “Back when my son was starting, I couldn’t afford a car for him” stated Lois; “and I’m glad I’m able to do this for my grandson.” The next people Chris would like to thank are his sponsors including Ray the Plumber, Bridgehampton National Bank, Ace’s Landscaping, and finally Martha C. Baker, D.M.D. – ‘The Racer’s Dentist’. Without their support, Chris would not have been able to become the consistent and well-prepared racer that he is. He would also like to thank his crew which include Brian Magee and Brandon Madonia. Last, but certainly not least, Chris would like to acknowledge and thank his mother, Ann, his father ,Chris, and his sister, Leah for helping to make his dream come true.
